Raymond M. Gauthereau, a former official of the French Government’s Overseas Service, who represented his country in Laos and in French Equatorial Africa, was named here today as resident representative in Israel for the United Nations Technical Assistance Board. He is expected to arrive in Israel before the end of this month.
In the 11 years that Israel has been receiving technical assistance under the UN program, nearly $3,500,000 has been spent by international organizations to provide Israel with the services of some 200 experts. At the same time, nearly 500 Israelis were sent by the UN program for training abroad in various economic and social fields.
The UN’s Technical Assistance Board has allocated $686,000 for work in Israel during 1961-1962. The Special Fund has approved four projects in Israel, involving and expenditures totaling $1,853,000 and counterpart expenditures of $3,378,000 by the Israeli Government.
