U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said the Sept. 11 terror attacks have lent new urgency to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. “A cease-fire is now desperately needed,” Annan said Thursday at an annual U.N. gathering marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. He added that “the expansion of settlements, assassinations, all acts of terrorism, economic blockades and incursions into (Palestinian) autonomous areas should cease immediately.”
