Members of the Cabinet and other leading government officials will be among 800 guests who will attend an Israeli Embassy reception at the Hotel Shoreham here on Wednesday to mark the first anniversary of the state of Israel. The guests will include members of Congress, members of the diplomatic colony here and other prominent citizens. British Ambassador Sir Oliver Franks was among those who accepted the invitation to attend the reception.
The possibility that Congress will devote two hours on Wednesday to the celebration was seen here today following a request submitted by Rep. Arthur G. Klein of New York asking for a special order of observance of the Jewish state’s first Independence Day. Several Congressmen were preparing speeches today for delivery at the anticipated Congressional celebration.
Meanwhile, it was announced here that the Library of Congress, in cooperation with the Israeli Government, will open a special exhibit in honor of the Israeli anniversary on May 5. The exhibition will feature a historical record of the Zionist movement.
