A spokesman for the United States Mission to the United Nations has denied there is any basis to a report from Cairo that the United States, the Soviet Union, Britain and France had agreed to revise the 1967 Security Council Resolution 242 to facilitate Palestinian participation in the Geneva Middle East peace conference.
The report by the official Egyptian news agency said the four major Security Council powers had agreed to call an emergency session of the Security Council to revise the resolution to eliminate a provision calling for “achieving a Just settlement of the refugee problem” and replace it with a clause calling for “a just settlement based on the national rights of the Palestinian people.” The mission spokesman told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency “there is nothing to the report” and that “we do not know anything” about such a move. He added a denial that there was any United States agreement with Russia, Britain and France to convene the Security Council.
