Egyptian Premier Gamal Abdel Nasser, in a press interview published here today, is reported as having expressed his belief that the United States could act as mediator between Israel and the Arab states.

Col. Nasser denied, in the course of the interview, that the evacuation of the British troops from the Suez Canal zone would result in Egyptian aggression against Israel. “We want peace to cope with our vital internal problems,” he declared. At the same time, he emphasized that Egypt would welcome American military aid in building stronger Egyptian armed forces.
