U.S. Jewish Leaders Discuss Restitution with Berlin Mayor

A delegation of the Jewish Restitution Successor Organization the organization responsible for the recovery of heirless Jewish assets in Germany, met here with Lord Mayor of Berlin, Dr. Otto Suhr before his departure for Berlin, to urge speedy conclusion of a settlement of the claims of the Jewish successor organizations in Berlin. Negotiations with the Berlin government to bring about such a settlement have been pending for more than two years.

Mayor Suhr promised to give immediate attention to this matter upon his return to Berlin tomorrow. The delegation was encouraged by the attitude shown by Mayor Suhr in this matter.

The delegation was headed by Dr. Israel Goldstein, president of the JRSO and included Moses Leavitt, executive vice-chairman of the Joint Distribution Committee, and Maurice M. Bookstein, general counsel of the Jewish Agency. Kurt Grossman and Saul Kagan, secretary of the JRSO accompanied the delegation. Dr. Paul Hertz, Minister of Economics for Berlin participated with Mayor Suhr.
