Leaders in all walks of Jewish life honored Israel Consul General Zemach Hyman here this week-end in connection with his return to Israel. Mr. Hyman is scheduled to leave his post in this country on August 22nd.
The Israel Cabinet today approved the appointment of Simha Pratt as Consul General in New York. Mr. Pratt, who served as Israel Consul in Chicago until recently, was originally scheduled for the post of Councellor in the Israel Embassy in Moscow, However because the Foreign Ministry could not find any suitable candidate to replace Mr. Hyman, it was decided to assign Mr. Pratt to the New York post.
At a farewell reception given in Mr, Hyman’s honor at the Israeli Consulate, leaders of all major Jewish organizations paid tribute to the role which he played in linking the American Jewish community with the people of Israel. Present at the reception were all the top leaders of the various Zionist groups and institutions in this country, as well as leaders of the American Jewish Committee, the United Jewish Appeal, the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare funds and other non-Zionist bodies.
