A story of how an unarmed German-Jewish refugee soldier in the U. S. army captured an escapted Nazi prisoner in England is revealed in last night’s Evening Standard. The soldier, Sgt. Charles A. Simon, was walking cross country when he spied a man wearing an American uniform hiding behind a tree. Acting on a hunch, he barked at the fugitive in German. “What are you doing there.” When the German did not answer he forced him to come out from behind the tree and accompany him to camp, an hour’s walk away.
