U.S. Jewry Spent $1,000,000,000 on Aid During Last Twenty Years

The 27th annual conference of YIVO, Yiddish Scientific Institute, concluded here last night with reports on Jewish life in the United States and Israel. B. Sherman, leading member of the Institute, reported that American Jewry has spent one billion dollars during the last 20 years on aiding Jews in various countries. This does not include private aid given by individual Jews. Nachman Tamir, educational director of the Histadruth in Tel Aviv, spoke of the problems of cultural absorption of immigrants in Israel.

Dr. Arthur T. Buch of Patterson, N.J., was presented with a $200 award for his study “The History of the Jews in Scranton, Pennsylvania.” A $100 prize was awarded to Egal Feldman of New York for his “Influence of the American Revolution on the Jewish Community in the United States.”
