American Jewry must be prepared to carry out its responsibility of assisting Israel for at least a decade, Rep. Jacob K. Javits declared here at the 16th annual convention of the Yeshiva University Synagogue Council. The council is composed of representatives of 800 synagogues throughout the US.
Rep. Javits outlined the four principal tasks for American Jewry in regard to Israel. They are, he said: responsibility in aiding Israel with the problems of resettlement, development and the earliest possible achievement of economic viability; aid in dealing with the influx of refugees from North Africa and Eastern Europe help in bringing about permanent resettlement of Palestine Arab refugees; and, support of Israel’s economic resources in such a way as to make it the basis for future regional economic cooperation in the Near East.
