About $90,000,000 has been invested during the last two-and-a-half years in developing agricultural settlements in Israel by the Agricultural Laborers Council, it was reported here today at the opening session of the Agricultural Laborers Council annual conference.
Abraham Harzfeld, one of the leaders of the Council, told the conference that a new American loan of $53,000,000 for developing agriculture in Israel is expected shortly. He outlined in detail how the loan will be spent. About $19,000,000 will be allocated for maintaining new settlements and the remainder will be spent for irrigation, manufacture of fertilizer and subsidies for citrus growers.
Mr. Harzfeld reported that 240 settlements have been established since Israel’s proclamation of independence. He announced that the Council is maintaining more than 100 labor settlements for 60,000 recent immigrants.
