A new Military Government directive issued today grants permission for 1,400 displaced Jews to be moved from Berlin into the interior of the American zone in order to relieve overcrowding here, which grows worse daily with the arrival of refugees from Eastern Europe.
Fifty persons will be transported daily by truck until the 1,400 quota is exhausted, with priority being given to persons who can prove that they have relatives somewhere in the U.S. zone. Officials who are arranging the transfer say that probably all of those to be moved will fall into that category.
Although gratified by the directives, relief workers here say that it will ameliorate the problem of overcrowding, but will not solve it. The Duppel Camp here, for instance, has 4,000 residents, although it is supposed to accommodate only 1,200.
