U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell was noncommittal about what the United States would do if the Palestinians again elect Yasser Arafat as their leader. “The United States will respect whatever they say as a people” when Palestinian elections are held, Powell said in an interview Tuesday with National Public Radio. Asked what would happen if they re-elect Arafat, he said, “Well, we’ll just have to see how that plays out. I mean, we will deal with the circumstances as we find them.”
