With large numbers of homeless and orphaned Jewish children in Europe in urgent need of immediate transfer and resettlement in Palestine, a Youth Immigration Coordinating Committee has been formed to coordinate activities and information in the United States and to act as an advisory and consultative body in the promotion of fund-raising in this country for Jewish youth immigration to Palestine, it was announced today.

The committee was formed at the request of the Youth Aliyah Department of the Jewish Agency, and consists of the United Palestine Appeal, Hadassah, Mizrachi Women’s Organization and Pioneer Women’s Organization.

In a statement issued jointly by the organizations which constitute the new body it was pointed out that within the past ten years approximately 15,000 children from various lands of oppression have been brought to Palestine under the aegis of Youth Aliyah. Hadassah has contributed more than $6,000,000 to that program. The Honeer Women’s Organization has raised through the “Child Rescue Fund” $450,000 since March 1948. The Mizrachi Women have sent $161,000 to Palestine for similar activities since 1943.

The United Palestine Appeal, as the medium through which American Jewry participates financially in the upbuilding of the Jewish National Home, is responsible for the basic settlement activities in Palestine which have made possible the absorption of the children into the structure of the Jewish homeland.
