The United Jewish Appeal Executive Committee has decided to increase its contribution to the American-Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. Paul Zuckerman, UJA.general chairman, said yesterday that the Committee, at its annual retreat which ended June 24, made this decision in response to the increasing needs of world Jewry.
“The task of absorbing an unprecedented number of immigrants from the Soviet Union in the coming year presents us with a historic challenge which our leadership is meeting,”Mr. Zuckerman said.
Simcha Dinitz, Israeli Ambassador to Washington, discussed Soviet Jewish Immigration to Israel at the retreat, and Herbert Stein, chairman of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors, reported on the United States economy.
