Three hundred and thirty members of the United Jewish Appeal’s annual study mission were at Lod Airport today as several plane loads of immigrants landed, including groups from the Soviet Union and other Eastern-bloc countries, and Oriental Jews who had been living in France. The group, headed by UJA General Chairman Paul Zuckerman, was addressed last night by Jewish Agency Executive Chairman Louis Pincus who said that between 50-60,000 families in Israel were living in a degree of poverty that made all self-respecting Israelis blush. Pinous told the UJA group that Israel must accomplish what it has failed to do in the last 25 years: solve its problem of social inequality.
