Ukraine agreed after months of delay to let some 500 youths come to Israel for a Jewish Agency for Israel program. Israeli Interior Minister Natan Sharansky succeeded in persuading Ukrainian officials to drop their objections to the Na’aleh program, according to a Sharansky spokesman. Ukrainian officials have delayed issuing the necessary visas, claiming that the program, which promotes immigration to Israel, was recruiting the best and brightest among the country’s youth.
