The tenth anniversary of the death of Sholom Aleichem, the late Jewish humorist known as the Jewish Mark Twain, is to be commemorated all over Ukrainia, the country of his birth, according to a decision of the Ukrainian National Commissariat of education. Sholom Aleichem died May 13, 1916.
It was proposed that the Ukrainian State Printing Department issue a special book dedicated to the memory of Sholom Aleichem and to publish a complete edition in Yiddish of his works during the next three years. It was also suggested that the Jewish museum in Odessa establish a special Sholom Aleichem section to collect data and material concerning his life and work. Several educational institutions will be named for him.
