Under the leadership of Colonel Niculcea, an officer in the reserves, a crowd of peasants attempted to organize demonstrations in Suceava against bankers and Jews. While Coloniel Niculcea was on his way to Radautz he was arrested and the planned meeting of anti-Semites prohibited. Nevertheless the crowd of peasants numbering about 2,000, demonstrated against the Jews and bankers.
An official communique from the Ministry of the Interior states that no meeting took place in Suceava where the assembled peasants waited all day in vain. According to the government’s statement the demonstration passed without serious clashes and the crowd was finally dispersed and order reestablished. The police took all necessary measures while the general secretary of the district directorate and police from Czernowitz also watched the situation.
