The University of Dayton announced here today that it is offering two courses dealing with the life and works of Dr. Martin Buber in its third term, opening next week. Prof. Buber was the famous Jewish philosopher and religious existentialist, who died at his home in Jerusalem last year.

The courses will be conducted by Dr. Alvin Reines, professor of philosophy at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, at Cincinnati. One of the courses will review the philosopher’s life and works, the other will be devoted to a detailed study of Buber’s writings. Both courses will be part of the university’s Judaic Studies Program.

The Rev. John Kelley, director of Judaic studies at the university, who announced the courses on Buber, said also that another Jewish scholar, Dr. Samuel Greengus, will teach two courses in archeology at the university next fall. Dr. Greengus, also a member of the HUC-JIR faculty, will open those courses when he returns from an archeological expedition to be conducted in Israel this summer, Rev. Kelley said.
