Samuel Untermyer celebrated his seventy-fifth birthday quietly here today surrounded by his family and several close friends at his beautiful estate at Greystone. It was not a day on which the noted attorney and defender of the public interest looked back on his long and busy years. As usual, he brought home last night a brief case crammed with papers to which he hoped to give his attention. He also planned to represent the American League for the Defense of Jewish Rights at the international boycott conference called for the end of June in London by the British group headed by Lord Melchett.
The League, in response to a cablegram urging American participation in the conference which is to plan organization of a worldwide boycott against the Nazi regime, asked that the session be postponed for two weeks in order to permit Mr. Untermyer’s attendance.
Mr. Untermyer gave no indication that he intends to diminish the heavy program of work which he has been carrying.
“I’ll be back at my desk Wednesday,” he said. “I’m a busy man.”.
