A call for a conference of spokesmen from all Jewish groups to find a common platform for a new formulation of American Judaism is proposed in the American Israelite of Friday, October 4th, by Dr. Louis I. Newman of Temple Rodeph Sholom of New York City, in his column, “Telling it in Gath.”

“The winds of doctrine are blowing in all directions, and the weathervane of Israel is careening madly from side to side,” Dr. Newman says. “This conference should be held. It would vitalize our thinking; it would stir and provoke the rabbis; it would even draw in the laity.

“It is undoubtedly true that a realignment of forces in Jewry is essential. Zionism cuts across all parties in Judaism, particularly across Reform.”
