Police today were investigating desecration of Jewish graves in the Pape Avenue Cemetery, oldest burying grounds in Toronto. Thirty tombstones were defaced by vandals and fourteen were destroyed. Damage was estimated at over $6,000.
Two youths are under arrest on charges of malicious mischief in connection with the vandalism. Some of the tombstones date back to 1854.
