Leaders of the Vienna Jewish community made formal protests today against plans to appoint Herman Neubacher, the first Nazi Mayor of Vienna, as general director of the Austrian national airlines.
In the protest to members of the Government and leaders of the parties in the coalition, it was pointed out that Neubacher was responsible for the destruction of 17 synagogues during a Nazi-inspired program. The Jewish leaders said that Neubacher, as Nazi-appointed mayor, banned intervention by the city’s fire brigades to save the burning synagogues.
