Late Chief Rabbi Laid to Rest Amid Impressive Ceremonies (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)

Not since the funeral of Dr. Theodor Herzl, founder of the Zionist organization, has Vienna seen such an impressive Jewish funeral as that of Dr. Zevi Perez Chajes, Chief Rabbi of Vienna.

The funeral march lasted five hours, thousands following the bier to the Great Synagogue and the cemetery. The street lamps were lighted although it was noon when the funeral started. A guard of honor composed of the Jewish academic youth maintained order. The Jewish stores and offices were closed for half an hour.

Impressive exercises were held at the Great Synagogue where the body of the late scholar was brought. The services were attended by President Hainisch, Herr Schitz, member of the government, Herr Schober, chief of police, and Emmerling, vice-mayor of Vienna.

Fifteen speakers eulogized the late Chief Rabbi, among whom were Dean Schwarz and Leo Motzkin, who spoke in the name of the Zionist Executive and the Actions Committee. A message of condolence was sent by Chancellor Seipel.
