The municipal government of Vilna, the city whose possession is disputed by Poland and Lithuania, will issue its ordinances in Polish and Yiddish from today on. This decision was taken by the city government.
The decision of the city government, equal to a recognition of Yiddish as an official language in Vilna, comes at a time when anxiety is displayed in various Polish circles over the conclusion of the Soviet Russia and Lithuanian agreement of nonagression, in which the Vilna question was not mentioned. The Polish press emphasized that this agreement between Russia and Lithuania is directed against Poland and the fact that the Vilna question was not mentioned in the treaty was interpreted to mean that Lithuania has secured the consent of Soviet Russia to its claim on Vilna.
