The possibility of violent explosions in Palestine which might lead to open warfare throughout the Arab world is foreseen in a report by the Foreign Policy Association released today.
The report, prepared by Grant S. McClellan, of the association’s research staff, suggests that the tense situation might be improved by internationalization of Palestine and by social, agricultural and industrial improvements in the Arab world comparable to those achieved by the Zionists, in order to raise the Arab standard of living. “If conditions of economic and political stabilization in Palestine can be assured by international agreement,” the report says, “continued Jewish immigration and further Zionist development is possible.”
Declaring that Palestine has emerged as a world problem, Mr. McClellan points out that both the United States and the Soviet Union are now displaying a growing interest in the Middle East, which, he states, “constitutes one of the most significant new developments in the Arab states since their separation from the Ottomon empire.” He stresses that the United States, particularly, has vital interests in the Middle East because of the presence of oil and trade possiblities.
