The West German Government has agreed to compensate the Histadrut, Israel’s labor federation, for the assets of the Hechalutz Youth Pioneering movement left behind in Germany and the countries occupied by the Nazis prior to World War II, it was announced here today by Yehoshua Levy, Histadrut treasurer. The compensation agreement calls for payment by the Bonn Government of 15, 000, 000 Deutschemarks ($3, 750, 000).
Mr. Levy announced that the money would be used exclusively for the building of vocational schools, club houses and other educational institutions. He noted that Histadrut had already allocated 4, 500, 000 Israeli pounds ($1, 500, 000) for the establishment of vocational schools in five immigrant development towns. The Israel Government is matching the allocation, pound for pound.
