The 70th birthday of Walter S. Hilborn, Jewish welfare and civic leader in the Los Angeles area and former president of the Federation of Jewish Welfare Organizations here, was celebrated last night at a reception in his honor attended by over 250 community leaders. A gavel was presented to Mr. Hilborn by the Federation.
Mr. Hilborn is one of the original incorporators and trustees of the Jewish Institute of Religion of New York and drew up that institution’s charter. A lifetime associate of the late Dr. Stephen S. Wise, Mr. Hilborn has been active in numerous Jewish causes and is at present honorary president of the local chapter of the American Jewish Committee. He is a former president of the Western Region of the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds.
