The White House conference on refugees called by President Roosevelt may have to be called off because of the international situation, informed sources said today.

Myron C. Taylor, American vice-chairman of the Intergovernmental Refugee Committee, has left for the United States on the liner Queen Mary after final consultations with Sir Herbert Emerson, director of the committee, Paul van Zeeland, president of the Coordinating Foundation, and others on the refugees situation.

Newspapers reported that German Embassy officials were advising German Jews to return to the Reich.

An official was quoted as stating: “We have advised all German citizens to return home. If it happens that there are Jews among them, well, they are still German citizens, and after all there are many Jews in Germany.”
