The Weizmann Institute of Science will shortly begin producing “heavy water,” an essential element of atomic energy production, the afternoon newspaper Hador reported. The report added that Israel’s scientists had developed an evaporation process for obtaining “heavy water” without the use of large quantities of electric power.
As a preliminary to planning and building the proposed Institute of Physics at the Weizmann Institute, Dr. Amos de Shalit, acting head of the nuclear physics group at the Institute, left Israel by air on a visit to various capitals in Northern and Western Europe.
