Confidence in the ultimate victory of the Allied arms was expressed here by Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the Jewish Agency, in an address before the executive council of the British Zionist Federation.
Reviewing the work of the World Zionist Executive since the Congress at Geneva on the eve of the war, Dr. Weizmann said that he and his colleagues were determined that “out of the present hour of distress, a new chapter should be written in Jewish history.” He voiced confidence that the British Zionists would do all in their power to support the struggle of the Allies and at the same time continue continue to aid the Palestine Jewish community.
Reporting on political activities, Prof. Selig Brodetsky, head of the political department of the Agency’s London executive, stressed the importance of the new American Zionist committee and declared that Dr. Weizmann’s letter to Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, offering cooperation in the war, represented the views not only of Zionists the world over but also of the overwhelming majority of Jewry which was determined to help the democracies in the struggle against Nazidom.
The Rev. Maurice Perlzweig outlined the special tasks of the World Jewish Congress in the present emergency.
