Welles Dodges Queries on Hoover, As Director of Refugee Work

Acting Secretary of State Sumner Welles, at his press conference yesterday parried questions on reports that Herbert Hoover might be drafted to supervise the Government’s refugee activities. “You’ll have to ask the White House,” he said. At the White House no statement was forthcoming.
