An essay on Chaim Nachman Bialik, famous Hebrew poet now living in Palestine, won first prize at the finals of the Metropolitan League of Jewish Community Association’s oratorical contest on “A Great Living Jewish Personality,” held Sunday afternoon at the Brooklyn Y. M. H. A. The prize winner is Leo Reinstein of the Bronx Y.M.H.A., a freshman at St. John’s College in Brooklyn, who will represent the Metropolitan League in the national Jewish oratorical contest to be held in New York this fall in connection with the dedication of the new Ninety-second Street Y.M.H.A.
For his speech on Chaim Weizmann, Henry Gezunterman, also of the Bronx Y.M.H.A., won second prize. Saul R. Fine of the Williamsburg Y.M.H.A., who spoke on Louis Brandeis, won third prize. Others who won prizes were George Bronz, speaking on Benjamin N. Cardozo; Benjamin Brender, who spoke on Stephen S. Wise; and Irvine B. Gilman, who talked on Arthur Schnitzler.
