With approximately $110,000 in pledges already announced, the city-wide drive to secure a new $125,000 home to house the aged and orphans of Worcester will be officially brought to a close Sunday evening, October 12. The victory rally scheduled for that night has been indefinitely postponed.
A committee of workers, however, will continue at the task until the sum originally set by the campaign directors is realized. Although the goal set fell short of the mark, officials expressed gratification at the result of the campaign in view of the depressive period through which this section of the state is passing.
Non-Jews aided greatly in putting the drive across. Over $8,000 in pledges was received from 120 Gentile contributors, the largest non-Jewish contribution being $1,000.
