The World Congress for Yiddish Culture concluded its five-day session here tonight with proclamation of a $1,000,000 campaign to promote Yiddish schools, literature, theatre and art in Jewish communities through-out the world. The sum is to be raised within a period of three years.
The Congress decided to establish a permanent organization to deal with projects for the strengthening of Yiddish culture in various countries. It adopted a number of resolutions on plans for coordinating the activities of various Jewish cultural groups and especially with developing educational work among Jewish youth. A world council composed of 250 members was elected at the concluding session.
The newly formed organization will arrange a Jewish music festival in New York and will organize Jewish singing societies in cities with a large Jewish population. It will also promote art by arranging exhibitions of the works of Jewish artists. One such exhibition in which 80 well-known Jewish artists are participating opened last night at the Jewish Museum here. The opening was attended by several hundred guests and was marked by a lecture on Jewish art.
