The World Jewish Congress today sent the Catholic chancellery a message of condolence on the death of Jean Cardinal Verdier, Archbishop of Paris, who died Monday at the age of 76.
“The Jews the world over mourn deeply the death of His Eminence, Cardinal Verdier, the great defender of civilization against racial barbarism,” the message said. Similar messages were sent by other Jewish organizations. Chief Rabbi Issaye Schwartz visited the Cardinal’s home and left his card.
