Yad Vashem is hosting an international conference for teens to help mark Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Young people from 62 countries and five continents gathered Sunday at Yad Vashem’s International School for Holocaust Studies for the three-day International Youth Congress. The participants, aged 17 to 19, include Christians, Jews, Muslims and Buddhists who speak some 30 different languages.
The congress, under the patronage of UNESCO, is devoted to the study of the Holocaust and discussions of its universal significance.
Participants will study Holocaust-related topics, tour Yad Vashem and Jerusalem, participate in workshops and meet with Holocaust survivors.
Special sessions will be held with the participation of Israeli President Shimon Peres, Education Minister Yuli Tamir, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and the diplomatic corps. Participants will formulate an international youth declaration and present it to Yad Vashem Chairman Avner Shalev and the chairman of the Yad Vashem Council, Tommy Lapid.
