Yasser Arafat mentioned two officials who could eventually succeed him. In an interview published Thursday in an Egyptian magazine, Arafat named Ahmed Karia, the speaker of the Palestinian legislative council, and Mahmoud Abbas, who is Arafat’s current deputy. Both are considered relative moderates and advocates of a peace agreement with Israel.
