Yasser Arafat reaffirmed the Palestinian demand for a “right of return,” saying Washington was wrong to back Israel on the issue. “Our destiny is to defend our land, our holy shrines and the right of the refugees to return to their homeland,” the Palestinian Authority president said in a live television address Thursday, referring to Arabs who fled during Israel’s 1948 War of Independence.
