Yasser Arafat signed legislation Tuesday approving a Palestinian prime minister. The Palestinian Authority president is expected to offer the job to his longtime deputy, Mahmoud Abbas. The move toward Palestinian power-sharing has helped motivate President Bush to announce that he will soon release his “road map” aimed at jump-starting the moribund Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
