The “Emess” today carries the first advertisement regarding the formalities attendant upon securing permission for Soviet citizens to leave Russia.
The advertisement, placed by the Intourist, Soviet Travel Agency, declares that the Intourist will arrange all the formalities for Soviet citizens desiring to emigrate from the country for the sum of five hundred gold roubles, where workers are concerned, and 1,000 gold roubles for other categories.
Although the regulations regarding emigration from Soviet Russia were previously made known through the news columns of the Russian press, this is the first time that the Yiddish press has published such an announcement.
The fact that the announcement today takes the form of an advertisement which appears exclusively in the Yiddish press is interpreted as indicating that the Intourist attaches considerable hope to a sizeable Jewish emigration from Russia in exchange for payment in gold, which will be arranged possibly through the aid of relatives abroad.
