120 delegates and about a thousand visitors were present at the opening session to-day of the Conference of Yiddish Writers in America, convoked by the I. L. Peretz Yiddish Writers’ Club. Dr. Koralnik, one of the editors of the Yiddish daily, the “Day”, was in the chair, and Dr. Chaim Zhitlowsky, the leader of the Yiddishist movement, spoke for about two hours on the national importance of the Yiddish language. Because it is rooted in the Yiddish-speaking masses and is the uniting force of the Jews all over the world, as well as of the Yiddish cultural forces, Yiddish is assured of victory over assimilation, Dr. Zhitlowsky said.
Dr. Koralnik announced to the Conference plans for a campaign to raise 50,000 dollars for the work of the organisation.
