The national executive of the Social Democratic Party today adopted a resolution opposing Zionism in principle, but asserting at the same time that the Zionist movement is entitled to the same democratic rights as other political movements.

Delegates to the World Zionist Congress here are making preparations to proceed to Switzerland in order to participate in the congress, but are not yet certain whether they will receive permits to leave the country. Such permits cannot be issued without the approval of the Soviet military authorities in Budapest.

Zionist leaders here today warmly welcomed a statement by President Zoltan Tildy, in an interview with a representative of a Swiss newspaper, to the effect that he can understand the aspirations of the Zionist movement and that he will not hamper the movement in Hungary. This statement is particularly important in view of the hostility which the Zionists have encountered from some of the authorities.
