A letter of congratulation to David Lloyd George on the occasion of his 70th birthday, has been sent by Dr. Selig Brodetsky, head of the political department of the Jewish Agency Executive in London.
“In the absence of Nahum Sokolow, the President of the Agency, in Palestine,” Dr. Brodetsky wrote, “there falls to me the pleasant duty of conveying to you the sincerest congratulations of the Jewish Agency on the happy occasion of your seventieth birthday, and its warmest good wishes for the future.
“I know that, in doing so, I am speaking, not only for Zionists as such, but also for Jews throughout the world, who will join wholeheartedly with all your other friends in wishing you many, many more years of happy and fruitful work in the cause of progress. As Zionists we are especially mindful of your never-failing sympathy and understanding of our aims, and of your courageous advocacy of the cause of Palestine in times when that cause was an unpopular and thankless one.
“It has often been said that the Jewish people suffers from its inability to confer honors or decorations on its friends and benefactors; while we are fully conscious of this lack, we yet venture to hope that you may find some small pleasure, on your seventieth birthday, in thinking that the name you have made so glorious in other—and wider—fields, is closely associated with Palestine, and in particular with one small (and highly privileged) village, Ramat David, in which Jews and Jewesses are enabled to live in the sunshine of the Holy Land and in the freedom of their National Home.”
