The Palestine subcommission of the Zionist general council will meet on Tuesday to reconsider the decision to participate in the conferences with the British government in view of London’s refusal to permit immediate immigration of 10,000 Jewish refugee children to the Holy Land. A Jewish policeman, Arieh Ben Shmaryahu, was shot to death from ambush yesterday as he was investigating destruction of an orange grove on the outskirts of Rehoboth. Sheikh Said El Hatib, member of a prominent moderate Arab family, was shot dead by an unidentified terrorist today in the old City quarter of Jerusalem. A British policeman was killed and two British policemen and an Arab terrorist were wounded when rebels attacked a British armored car on the Acre-Safed road.
The Arab moderate faction headed by Fakhri Bey Nashashibi, mayor of Bethlehem, organized an impressive demonstration of loyalty toward Britain at the village of Yatta, south of Hebron. Major. Gen. Richard Nugent O’Connor and Edward Keith-Roach, Military Government district commissioner of the Jerusalem area respectively, other high British officers and a number of civilian officials were present at the ceremonies, in which 3,000 Arab peasants took part.
