A school board’s decision to remove Art Speigelman’s book from its curriculum prompted fierce backlash and some efforts to give away the book — and accompanying instruction — for free.
“It shows them killing kids,” one board member said to explain why he thought “Maus,” which won a Pulitzer Prize, was not appropriate as a school text.
“In today’s all too real world, Captain America’s most nefarious villain, the Red Skull, is alive on screen and an Orange Skull haunts America,” Spiegelman wrote.
