As previously reported, the German Government declared itself prepared to give transmigration facilities through Germany to three hundred refugees expelled from Poland, and to allow them to stay in the country until they received their visas and were able to continue their journey. Dr, Spiegel, the representative of the German Red Cross, went specially to Warsaw in order to arrange details on the spot. He did not arrive in Warsaw, however, until after April 15th, by which date the term fixed by the Polish Government for the evacuation of the refugees had already expired. and the refugees who had been selected for transmigration through Germany had left Poland to proceed to Cuba or Mexico. The permission of the German Government no longer holds good, but Dr. Spiegel declares that he hopes that the German Red Cross will be able to persuade the Government to allow three hundred to five hundred refugees who must leave Poland after Sept. 1, to stay in Germany until they have obtained their American visas.
