Dr. Bension, the Keren Hayesod delegate, left New York on his way back to China, from where he will proceed to India, Mesopotamia and Palestine.

Interesting details were disclosed by Dr. Bension, as to the bequest of $600,000 to the Keren Hayesod by Mr/Shemtow a wealthy Jewish citizen of Bagdad.

According to the law in Mesopotamia, a bequest becomes “wakuf”, which makes it impossible for the owner to dispose of the property or to alter his will. Mr. Shemtow has appointed as trustees Rabbi Uziel, Chief Sepordic Rabbi of Jaffa; and Mr. David Yellin; as successors to the trustees the Waad Leumi of Jerusalem, besides Dr. Weizmann, Dr. Albert Einstein, and James de Rothschild have been asked by Mr. Shemtow to assist the official trustees.

The revenue of Mr. Shemtow’s estate, which amounts to 12,000 pounds yearly, shall be spent by the Keren Hayesod towards the schools and hospitals maintained by the Keren Hayesod in Palestine.

In addition to this bequest Mr. Shemtow has handed over certain buildings in the form of mortgages, made out in the name of Dr. Bension, the money to be spent for the development of spiritual science in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The trustees of this fund will be Dr. Berthold Feiwel, Dr. Juda Magnus, Mr. Minachem Ussuschskin, David Yellin and Dr. Bension.
