Two workers of the Jewish Colonization Association and a pioneer Jewish family in the Jewish agricultural settlements in Canada will be honored by a decision of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
The Canadian Committee of the Jewish Colonization Association were informed that as a result of its efforts, the Canadian Pacific Railway has agreed to give to the first three stations on its New Bromhead Line in Southeastern Saskatchewan the names of Oungre, Hoffer and Sonnenfeld.
The names of Oungre and Sonnenfeld are designated to commemorate the work of the Managers of the Jewish Colonization Association who were largely instrumental in founding and developing the Jewish settlement in Western Canada. The Hoffer family were the pioneer Jewish farmers in the district and have contributed greatly toward its development.
The Jewish Colonization Association and individual Jewish farmers own about 12,000 acres of land in this district. Only recently, the Jewish Colonization Association acquired 1600 acres and settlement work is now in progress.
